Pakistan Will Not Become Part of Any Conflict, Yields Benefits From Peace - Prime Minister

Pakistan has no intention of becoming involved in any conflict since it believes peace is the only way of generating economic growth, as has already been evidenced in the nation's tourism sector, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) Pakistan has no intention of becoming involved in any conflict since it believes peace is the only way of generating economic growth, as has already been evidenced in the nation's tourism sector, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday.

Addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, Khan said that Pakistan had learned that "you cannot have prosperity and economic growth if there is no peace and stability."

According to the prime minister, over the past years his country had participated in the two conflicts the "Afghan jihad" and the war against terrorism after the 9/11 attacks that inflicted significant damage on the country and society.

Among the ramifications of these conflicts he mentioned drug trafficking, the emergence of militants and sectarian groups, suicide attacks and a death toll of 70,000 people. All this, he added, has turned Pakistan into one of the most dangerous places in the world.

"When my government came into power, we made a conscious decision that we will only partner with people in peace. We will not become part of any conflict," Khan stated.

He named tourism as the "first benefit" of choosing the path of peace, describing Pakistan as "one of the most undiscovered countries in the world" and reporting a twofold increase in tourism in the country in one year.
