Forty Taliban Militants Surrender to Afghan Forces in Central Ghor Province - Military

Forty armed Taliban members have surrendered to the Afghan forces in the country's central province of Ghor, the Afghan Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday

KABUL (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) Forty armed Taliban members have surrendered to the Afghan forces in the country's central province of Ghor, the Afghan Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The insurgents have been fighting with security forces in the Shahrak District of the province for the past few days, and eventually surrendered to Afghan troops," the statement said.

The ministry added that the surrendered Taliban militants had promised that they would live peacefully and would not take up arms.

Afghanistan has struggled to contain the Taliban movement for almost two decades. The conflict-stricken country continues to serve as a breeding ground for various insurgent and militant groups affiliated with al-Qaeda and the Islamic State terrorist organizations (both groups are banned in Russia).
