CHISINAU (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) Moldova's President Igor Dodon said on Wednesday that he has left for a working visit to Israel to take part in the World Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem.

"I went on a working visit to Israel at the invitation of the country's president, Reuven Rivlin. As part of the visit, I will participate in the World Holocaust Forum," Dodon wrote on Facebook.

The fifth World Holocaust Forum, organized by the World Holocaust Forum Foundation to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, will be held on Thursday and will be attended by about 50 heads of state, members of royal families and heads of government. Rivlin, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK's Charles, Prince of Wales and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier are expected to address the gathering.

Auschwitz-Birkenau was opened by Nazis in 1940 and remained operational until the end of World War II. It was the largest concentration camp where around 1.4 million people were killed there before it was liberated by the Soviet Army in January 1945. The site of the former camp was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. It is now a symbol of the Holocaust.
