River Indus Continues To Flow In Low Flood

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th july,2016) : The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said all main rivers including Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal, except for River Indus which is running in Low Flood at Kalabagh.

According to daily FFC report, today's river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1515.32 feet and 1229.70 feet respectively, which are 34.68 feet & 12.30 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.

The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 11.022 MAF as compared to last year's 12.846 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, a trough of Westerly Wave lies over Northeastern Iran.

Seasonal Low lies over Northern Balochistan. Moist current from Arabian Sea is penetrating into upper parts of the country upto 5000 feet and likely to further intensify. As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, scattered thunderstorm/ rain is expected over the upper catchments of rivers Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum including Rawalpindi & Gujranwala Divisions during the next 24 hours.

Isolated thunderstorm/ rain may occur over the upper catchment of river Indus including Sargodha, Lahore and D.

G.Khan Divisions, besides, Northeastern Balochistan and Southeastern Sindh during the same period. Scattered thunderstorm/ rain with isolated heavy falls is expected over the upper catchments of all major rivers, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Southeastern Sindh, Northeastern Balochistan and Gilgit- Baltistan during the next 48 hours.

Heavy downpour may cause flash flooding and Landslides in the vulnerable areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir, besides, rain coupled with glacier melt water may result in GLOF events in vulnerable areas of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan during the same period.

All concerned authorities are advised to remain alert, watch the situation closely and take all necessary precautionary measures in order to avoid loss of human lives and damage to private and public property. Significant rainfall events as reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours include; Murree = 46 mm, Phulra = 44 mm, Kakul = 41 mm, Palandri = 36 mm, Lahore (Airport = 29 mm, Taj Pura = 20 mm & Misri Shah = 10 mm), Hattian Bala = 23 mm, Rawalakot = 22 mm, Domel = 16 mm, Muzaffarabad = 15 mm, Talhatta = 13 mm, Jhelum = 12 mm, Sehrkakota & Dratian = 11 mm each, Kotli = 10 mm and Sialkot (Cantt) = 10 mm.
