BERLIN, (Pakistan Point News - 25th july, 2016) - Germany will host neighbours Poland in Berlin on September 16-18 in the Davis Cup relegation play-off with their respective World Group places at stake, it was announced on Monday. The teams face a play-off to stay in the World Group after losing their first-round matches when the Germans were narrowly beaten in Hanover by the Czech Republic while Poland lost 3-2 in Gdansk to semi-finalists Argentina.
This is the first time the neighbours will face each other since 1977, with Germany leading the series 2-1, and the tie will be held at the Steffi Graf Stadium on sand. Germany have not played a Davis Cup match in the capital since Boris Becker and Michael Stich helped seal a 5-0 win over Argentina in the quarter-finals in 1991. Japan will play Ukraine in Osaka the same weekend for a place in the 2017 World Group.
