Kuwait Raises Security Level At Ports In Wake Of Saudi Aramco Attack - Reports

CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2019) Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al Roudan boosted the security at all national ports from level one to two on Friday in light of the drone attack that hit the oil facilities of neighboring Saudi Arabia, media reported, citing the Kuwait Ports Authority.

On Wednesday, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said that several army units had been put on alert. The General Staff noted that the move would be followed by other precautionary measures meant "to preserve the country's integrity, its lands, waters and airspace from any potential dangers."

The fresh ministerial order, in turn, obligates all those concerned to take measures to protect ships and port facilities, according to the Kuwait news Agency. The move is also justified by the need to ensure the country's security on the whole, the order said.

The situation in the region has remained tense since summer when several tankers were attacked in the Persian Gulf.

On Saturday, a drone attack on two Saudi oil installations resulted in a cut of more than half in the country's daily oil output. Although Yemen's Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, the United States and Saudi Arabia have again blamed Iran. Tehran has rejected the allegations.
