Russian Court Releases Actor Ustinov From Jail on Recognizance Not to Leave Moscow

The Moscow City Court on Friday ruled to release actor Pavel Ustinov on his own recognizance not to leave town, changing the measure of restraint for him, a Sputnik correspondent reported Friday from the courtroom

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2019) The Moscow City Court on Friday ruled to release actor Pavel Ustinov on his own recognizance not to leave town, changing the measure of restraint for him, a Sputnik correspondent reported Friday from the courtroom.

Ustinov was sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment on Monday for violence against a riot police officer during an unauthorized protest in the Russian capital on August 3. He denied the charges and said he had not even taken part in the protest. His defense filed an appeal.

"The court rules to change the measure of constraint from custody to travel ban," Judge Yulia Manerkina announced in court.

Many Russian celebrities and politicians have protested the actor's conviction. Andrei Turchak, the secretary of the General Council of the ruling United Russia party, said videos from the rally showed Ustinov was only a bystander.
