France to Allocate $442Mln to Support Lebanon - Lebanese Prime Minister

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced Friday that French President Emmanuel Macron would allocate $442 million to support Lebanon

PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2019) Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced Friday that French President Emmanuel Macron would allocate $442 million to support Lebanon.

"I thank France on behalf of all Lebanese people for supporting stability and the country's economy," Hariri told a press conference with the French President Emmanuel Macron, adding that "France has agreed to grant Lebanon with 400 million euro [$442 million] credit."

The prime minister added that Lebanon and France signed an agreement on France's initiatives to provide the Middle Eastern country with equipment to enhance its defense.

Hariri also made a point to say that he wanted to hold a meeting of the Conference for Economic Development and Reform through Enterprises (CEDRE) in the middle of November.

Lebanon has been facing a political and economic crisis for years and the situation has worsened since the start of the civil war in Syria, which forced hundreds of thousands of refugees to flee to neighboring countries, including to Lebanon.
