UNSC Fails to Support Russian-Chinese Resolution on Ceasefire in Idlib

The UN Security Council did not support on Thursday a resolution, drafted by Russia and China, urging for a ceasefire in Syria's Idlib

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2019) The UN Security Council did not support on Thursday a resolution, drafted by Russia and China, urging for a ceasefire in Syria's Idlib.

Earlier in the day, Russia and China vetoed a resolution drafted by the so-called humanitarian troika - Germany, Belgium and Kuwait - that urges for the pause in all hostilities in Syria's northwest.

The resolution, co-sponsored by Russia and China, stipulates that the ceasefire regime should not be applied to military operations against terrorists from organizations designated by the UN Security Council. The resolution failed to obtain the required number of nine votes in favor.
