BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th September, 2019) Maros Sefcovic, the European Commissioner for the Energy Union, said on Thursday that the bloc's main priority was to reach a deal that would secure a long-term contract for the transit of Russian gas to the European Union through Ukraine.Sefcovic chaired negotiations between the European Union, Russia and Ukraine in Brussels earlier in the day. Russia was represented by Energy Minister Alexander Novak, while Ukraine was represented by Energy Minister Oleksiy Orzhel.
"Our priority is to [reach] an agreement on a long-term contract. I believe that it is the best solution for all parties because I think that the Russian side needs to clearly underline the image of a reliable supplier, [while] the Ukrainians want to underline the image of a reliable transitor," he said.
