TMA Urged To Improve Solid Waste Management System

SARGODHA,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st july,2016) : Garbage and hospital waste dumping near residential areas of the city requires attention of the authorities concerned to improve solid waste management system in the city. People said that waste dumping at roadsides was causing problems for them.
The heaps lying at roadsides comprising hospitals waste were causing diseases among people, they said. The District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) administration confirmed that no incinerator was available for disposal of hospital waste.
Doctors said that burning of plastic waste produced a chemical dioxin, causing cancer, birth defects, paralysis, hearing defects and behavioural problems among infants. The district administration has already imposed Section 144 on dumping of garbage in the open, flying of pigeon, kite in surrounding areas including Tariq Abad, Istaqlalabad, Fatima Jinnah Colony to Dhareema, Waigowal, Jinnah Colony, 49 Tail, adjacent areas of Chak 46/SB, Chak 86/NB, Chak 97/NB and Cantt area, Chungi No 9, Ajnala Road and the areas of Jhaal Chakian.
A spokesman said the district coordination officer (DCO) had directed all Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) for crackdown on elements dumping garbage illegally. A Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU) is being established for dumping of solid waste from the city which will solve the problem, he said and added that special teams have also been formed to conduct raids.
