MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th June, 2019) Moscow may become one of the top 10 cities in terms of fastest growing tourism rates in the world by as early as 2025, in part due to the contribution of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, a survey carried out by the BCG consultancy and obtained by Sputnik has shown.
The success of the World Cup demonstrated that Moscow, which was one of the host cities, was ready to receive a lot more tourists than before and offer a world-class tourist product, the survey said. Between September and December, the Russian capital saw a 117 percent year-on-year growth in tourist numbers, while in the four months prior to the championship, which took place in June and July, this figure did not exceed 13 percent.
Moreover, 47 percent of all tourists who traveled to Moscow said that they were ready to recommend the Russian capital to others as a travel destination.
The survey also found that tourism may also start generating twice as much income for the Russian capital by 2025 as before, up to 1.5 billion rubles ($23 million), in fact, which would account for 6-8 percent of Moscow's economy.
To achieve that the Russian capital should be made more inclusive, boost the quality of services and promote itself in target markets, the survey added.
