TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th May, 2019) Tokyo has told Moscow that the country's missile defense systems, including Aegis Ashore, serve only defense purposes and do not target Russia, Japanese Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya said on Thursday.
Tokyo has hosted the fourth round of talks in the so-called 2+2 format between the foreign and defense ministers of Russia and Japan.
"I have explained the National Defense Program Guidelines adopted last year, and once again stressed that our country's missile defense systems, including Aegis Ashore, which were noted by the Russian side, are purely defensive systems that are not threatening Russia," Iwaya told reporters.
