Polling For AJK Elections Underway

RAWALPINDI,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st july,2016) :- Polling for three Constituencies of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly is underway in Rawalpindi district which started at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm without any break. Strong competition is expected between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in today's election. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the district for holding elections on three AJK Legislative Assembly seats in a transparent manner. Three constituencies, Valley-IV, Valley-V and Jammu-VI reserved for the Valley and Jammu fall in Rawalpindi city and Rawalpindi division.
Total 101 polling stations with 156 polling booths have been set up for three constituencies where 570 polling officers and staffers are performing duty. Ten polling stations to facilitate 3600 voters have been set up in Valley-IV constituency.
4469 voters are registered in Valley-V constituency where 14 polling stations have been set up.
77 polling stations have also been set up to facilitate 30,776 voters of Jammu-VI constituency. Women Commandos have also been deployed to ensure security at women polling booths and stations in Rawalpindi district.
The results from polling stations would be sent to the Returning Officer under the supervision of the Army. According to District Election Commissioner/Returning Officer Muhammad Nadeem Zubair, all possible efforts have been made to make the elections transparent and peaceful.
He said that only candidates, voters, polling agents and authorized media persons are being allowed to enter the polling stations and no irrelevant person including government functionaries, members of assemblies or local bodies are allowed to enter the polling stations. 1150 police personnel have been deployed at polling booths and polling stations in Rawalpindi district.
