SHC Directs To Remove Barriers From Link Road In Kotri Town

HYDERABAD, , (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Nov, 2016 ) : The Sindh High Court has ordered removal of barriers preventing movement of the heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) from link road in Kotri town, Jamshoro district, to ease the traffic congestion problem.
According to the details, the Hyderabad Circuit Bench of the Sindh High Court on Thursday gave three days to Deputy Commissioner and SSP Jamshoro for removal of the barriers. In case of failure, they [Deputy Commissioner and SSP] shall appear in person [on next hearing on Nov 30] with explanation," the order of Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and justice Muhammad Iqbal Mehar, read.
The court noted that the closure of the link road which connects National Highway passing through Kotri to the Super Highway had increased the flow of traffic on the Indus Highway's 5-kilometer stretch between Kotri and Hyderabad Bypass.
According to the petitioner advocate Gahi Khan Jatoi, the HTV traffic moving from the upcountry to Karachi began to use the National Highway instead of Super Highway from Hyderabad to reach Karachi.
Therefore, the vehicles took the route from Hyderabad Bypass to Kotri via the Indus Highway's stretch to access the National Highway, he added. This resulted in an immense increase in the traffic volume on the 5-km stretch, which was already burdened with the HTV traffic from Kotri SITE as well as a busy railway crossing, he explained.
"The inhabitants of Kotri were facing great hardship and it was a routine that traffic was blocked and people travelling in their vehicles on road as well as residents of adjoining areas were suffering from nuisance," the order observed. The court fixed next hearing of the case on November 30.
