Deadly Fire In Coaching Center In Western India Kills 20 People - Reports

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th May, 2019) A major fire flared up on Friday at an educational center in the city of Surat in India's western Gujarat state leaving 20 people killed, local media reported.

The massive fire reportedly broke out on the second floor of a four-story Taxshila commercial building in the Sarthana district of Surat. Videos showed heavy black smug and people jumping down from the top levels in an attempt to escape.

"Surat Fire: Death toll in fire at a coaching center in Sarthana area rises to 20," the ANI news outlet posted on its Twitter.

The media outlet also reported that Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani visited a hospital, where those injured in the fire were transferred.

The authorities launched an investigation and assured financial assistance to the families of those killed.
