Scandal With Ex-Austrian Vice Chancellor Vienna's Affair - Russian Foreign Ministry

The scandal involving former Austrian Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache is Vienna's affair, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd May, 2019) The scandal involving former Austrian Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache is Vienna's affair, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

Strache was forced to resign as both vice-chancellor and leader of Freedom Party of Austria last week after media released a 2017 video of him promising to fix public contracts in exchange for money from a woman who posed as a niece of a Russian oligarch,

"This is Austria's internal affair, their domestic issue. We see how this story is being used and covered by the media ... and I am not completely certain that these are the results of journalistic investigations," Zakharova told a briefing,

The spokeswoman said that the coverage appeared to have been a campaign ordered by someone.

Zakharova mentioned Euronews broadcaster, which covered the story as a "corruption scandal linked to Russia."

"The country is called Austria, the people involved are not Russian citizens, at least, as far as we know. The broadcaster did not offer any facts. Yet again, it spread the information that was not verified and that was not true, where one of the main participants turned into a Russian all of a sudden, although by now everyone has learned that she is from Latvia," Zakharova said.
