Talal Chaudhry draws ire for misogynist remarks against Firdous Ashiq

“This is the same kind of change where if Fordous Aashiq Awan is made to wash her face, without makeup there will be Firdous Khan inside,” Talal said.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 22nd May, 2019) Misogyny and sexism is deeply rooted in Pakistani society, more so in our politics.

Every now and then, politicians make certain remarks about female politicians that are not only bad in taste but also very sexist and misogynist.

Recently, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry made such remarks about Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan.

In a video that is making rounds on social media, Talal Chaudhry can be heard as saying, “This is the same kind of change where if Fordous Aashiq Awan is made to wash her face, without makeup there will be Firdous Khan inside.”

As the video went viral, people are condemning these remarks and demanding an apology.

Former PML-N minister Ahsan Iqbal then came for some face saving and apologised on behalf of his party.

“We must not make political battles personal and should always be respectful towards women regardless of their political affiliation. I apologise on behalf of PMLN. Our leader MNS’s legacy is to maintain decency in politics,” he wrote.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan was criticised for calling Bilawal Bhutto Zardari "Sahiba" during a public meeting in Wana.
