Russia Donates Nearly 100 Trucks, 30 Trailers to UN Food Program - Statement

The Russian government donated more than 95 Kamaz trucks and 30 trailers to the World Food Programme to support its operations in the United Arab Emirates, Ghana and Uganda, the WFP said in a press release on Tuesday

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st May, 2019) The Russian government donated more than 95 Kamaz trucks and 30 trailers to the World Food Programme to support its operations in the United Arab Emirates, Ghana and Uganda, the WFP said in a press release on Tuesday.

"The World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes the Russian Federation's donation of 97 KAMAZ trucks and 30 trailers, which will greatly enhance its transport capacity. This recent donation will help boost the operational performance of three of WFP Regional Fleet Hubs, namely in the UAE, Ghana and Uganda," the release said.

The handover of the first 37 units to the WFP's Dubai fleet took place earlier in the day during a ceremony at the International Humanitarian City hub, attended by representatives from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the UN food program, according to the release.

The WFP added that Kamaz would be providing a three-year training course to the UN food program's personnel.

The latest donation represents a third contribution by Russia to the World Food Programme. In 2011, the WFP received 40 Kamaz trucks and integrated them into the organization's fleet in Afghanistan, which was followed by a major contribution of 218 vehicles in 2014 deployed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, South Sudan and Ethiopia.
