Indian intelligence services have received information about the plans of terrorist groups to attack two air bases located in the country's northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, local media reported on Friday

NEW DELHI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th May, 2019) Indian intelligence services have received information about the plans of terrorist groups to attack two air bases located in the country's northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, local media reported on Friday.

The ANI news agency reported, citing several government sources, that terrorists allegedly planned to attack Srinagar and Awantipur air force stations. The local security forces were put on high alert.

On February 14, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated, as a car carrying over 100 Pounds of explosives was detonated on the Jammu-Srinagar highway next to a security convoy in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir state, killing 45 Indian paramilitary officers. The attack was claimed by Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed.

India has repeatedly accused Pakistan of supporting the militants and having a "direct hand" in the Kashmir incident. Pakistan, however, has rejected all allegations.

Jammu and Kashmir is a region that has been disputed by India and Pakistan since 1947 when both countries gained independence from the British Empire. The two countries have gone through three wars over the region, but the conflict has not been resolved.
