Myanmar's Domestic Passenger Jet Makes Belly Landing In Mandalay -Civil Aviation Authority

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th May, 2019) An Embraer ERJ-190LR passenger plane operated by the Myanmar National Airline made a belly landing on Sunday at Mandalay International Airport, U Ye Htut Aung, the deputy director general of the country's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), said.

The jet with 82 passengers and seven crew members on board was heading from the city of Yangon to Mandalay.

"The plane has landed in the middle of the runway Mandalay Airport. The runway is 14,000 ft and the plane landed at 5,000 ft," the official said, as quoted by The Myanmar Times newspaper.

The incident was caused by a mechanical failure that prevented nose wheel from extending, according to the DCA deputy director general. He added that no people had been injured in the incident.

The Brazilian-made Embraer E-Jet family medium-range planes have been produced since 2002. There were two deadly incidents involving these jets: in China in 2010 and in Namibia in 2013, with the latter having been caused by deliberate actions of one of the pilots.
