Sixteen Humanitarian Groups Suspend Operations in Northwest Syria Over Fierce Clashes - UN

At least 16 humanitarian organizations suspended activities in northwestern Syria over the recent escalation of tensions in the area, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Saturday in a press release

DAMASCUS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th May, 2019) At least 16 humanitarian organizations suspended activities in northwestern Syria over the recent escalation of tensions in the area, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Saturday in a press release.

"Conflict has increased in northwest Syria, impacting civilians, civilian infrastructure and service provision in northern Hama and southern Idleb [Idlib] governorates ... As of 8 May, at least 16 humanitarian partners have suspended their operations in areas impacted by conflict. Five humanitarian workers, including two health professionals, have been reportedly killed due to airstrikes and shelling," the press release said.

The escalation of tensions resulted in relocation of some 180,000 people between April 29 and May 9, according to the OCHA. The hostilities also left 16 schools and 15 health facilities damaged.

Over the past two weeks, terrorists have boosted the number of shelling attacks on the Syrian provinces of Hama, Aleppo and Latakia. They have also been attempting to attack the positions of the Syrian army in the region. The government forces have responded by boosting their attacks on terrorists staying in Idlib. The Syrian forces are targeting depots, artillery positions and observation posts of the Nusra Front terrorist group (banned in Russia).
