US, 14 Partner Nations Deploy to Finland for 'Bold Quest' Military Exercise - EUCOM

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th May, 2019) About 2,200 service members, civilians and contractors from the United States and 14 partner nations will participate in the 18-day Bold Quest military exercise slated to begin this week, the US European Command (EUCOM) announced in a press release on Friday.

"Bold Quest [BQ] is a collaborative joint and multinational enterprise in which Nations, Services and Programs pool their resources in a recurring cycle of capability development, demonstration and analysis," the release stated. "Conceived in 2001, the BQ coalition has grown since 2003 from the US services and four nations to now include 18 Partner Nations and NATO Headquarters."

The first of about 2,200 participants, 700 from Finnish Defense Forces, began arriving in host nation Finland in late April for the exercise, the release said. The largest contingents from other nations will come from the United States, Norway, Denmark, France and Sweden.

A Finnish heavy rocket launcher battery, a heavy artillery battalion and a mortar company will participate in live fire portions of the demonstration along with artillery and rocket units from Belgium, Sweden and France, the release said.

The Bold Quest sorties will be flown by more than 30 fixed wing aircraft and helicopters from Denmark, Finland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway, and the United States May 13-24, the release added.
