UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th April, 2019) The United Nations expects the US administration to uphold the UN host country agreement and allow Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza to come to the organization's headquarters in New York, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a press briefing on Tuesday."I don't know if it [sanctions] will affect his ability, he has been here previously, and as a matter of principle, we very much hope that the United States, as they have said, would always respect their engagements on the host country agreement," Dujarric said.
He added, "We have no reason to believe the United States will not uphold its part in the headquarters agreement."
The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the Venezuelan foreign minister on Friday following his speech at the United Nations earlier last week. The top diplomat slammed the United States for its alleged efforts to dominate the United Nations and denounced the US call on other members of the organization to recognize US-backed Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido.
