MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th April, 2019) Bangladesh expects a high-level delegation from Russia to attend its 50th independence anniversary in 2021, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister A. K. Abdul Momen told Sputnik in an interview.

"[In] 2021, we will be observing the 50th year of independence of Bangladesh. Naturally, we expect high[-level] top representatives from Russia to visit Bangladesh during these events. Because Russia anyway was very much involved in our independence movement. We look forward to their visit," the foreign minister said.

Bangladesh celebrates its Independence Day on March 26.

On March 26, 1971, East Pakistan, which formed a single country with Pakistan at the time, launched its campaign for a liberation and seceded as Bangladesh in December of the same year. The Soviet Union recognized the newly independent country in January 1972.
