European Commission Registers Record High Volume of US-EU LNG Trade in March

The highest ever volume of US-EU trade in liquefied natural gas (LNG) was recorded in March, the European Commission said in a Tuesday statement

BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th April, 2019) The highest ever volume of US-EU trade in liquefied natural gas (LNG) was recorded in March, the European Commission said in a Tuesday statement.

"U.S. LNG imports to the EU have been increasing continuously since the first cargo in April 2016 and have seen a steep rise after [US] President [Donald] Trump and President [of the European Commission Jean-Claude] Juncker's meeting in July 2018. Since then the cumulative EU imports of liquefied natural gas from the U.S. have increased by 272% and March 2019 recorded the highest volume ever of EU-U.S. trade in LNG with more than 1.4 billion cubic metres [49 billion cubic feet]," the statement reads.

The commission noted that last week, a grant deal between the Polish government and the Polskie LNG firm was signed, providing for extending the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie, with the EU investing nearly 128 million Euros in the extension.
