First Launch From Vostochny Cosmodrome in 2019 Tentatively Set for July 5 - Roscosmos

The first launch to be conducted from Russia's Vostochny cosmodrome in 2019 has been provisionally scheduled for July 5, Roscosmos said Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th April, 2019) The first launch to be conducted from Russia's Vostochny cosmodrome in 2019 has been provisionally scheduled for July 5, Roscosmos said Tuesday.

"Meteor-M 2.2 [is planned to be launched] from Vostochny cosmodrome on July 5, 2019. (The date of the launch may be changed.)" the space corporation said in a statement.

The launch of Meteor-M 2.2 was initially scheduled for late 2018 but then was delayed after it was found that the spacecraft was not ready.

Roscosmos' press service told Sputnik in March that Meteor-M 2.2 would be launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome aboard the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket on June 27.

At the same time, a source in the rocket and space industry told Sputnik that the launch may take place on July 12 or later, adding that the possible delay was not linked to any technical problems.

According to the GK Launch Services, more than 40 small satellites will be launched along with Meteor-M 2.2.

Since April 2016, four launches have been carried out from the Vostochny cosmodrome. According to Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin, Russia wants to carry out at least five space launches from the spaceport in 2019.
