Ali Zafar slammed for bringing Malala into controversy with Meesha Shafi

Speaking to media in the court, Ali Zafar said he was targeted for personal gains, alleging Meesha Shafi of wanting Canadian immigration.  

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 27th April, 2019) Singer cum actor Ali Zafar, while taking a dig at fellow singer Meesha Shafi, said that Meesha wants to become Malala by targeting him.

Ali Zafar had appeared before a local court in Lahore for a hearing sexual harassment case on Saturday.

Speaking to media in the court, Ali Zafar said he was targeted for personal gains, alleging Meesha Shafi of wanting Canadian immigration.

He said that Meesha wanted international recognition there and wanted to become a Malala.

He said that the allegations against him are false, adding that propaganda is being done against him through fake Twitter accounts.

Ali Zafar’s statement bringing Malala into his controversy with Meesha Shafi and degrading her went viral on social media. Twitterati slammed the singer for his insensitive remarks.

Following the criticism, Ali Zafar clarified his statement in a tweet.

He said that Malala is a true warrior who stands for truth and justice having made great sacrifices.

“Meesha cannot become her by lying and running away from justice hiding behind fake profiles on social media. #FaceTheCourtMeeshaShafi,” he wrote.

Meesha Shafi had alleged her colleague Ali Zafar of sexual harassment in a tweet in June, 2018.

Using the #Metoo hashtag, Shafi added that it is not easy to speak out but it is harder to stay silent. “My conscience will not allow it anymore,” she added.

Meesha had filed a complaint against Ali Zafar under the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2010 while Ali Zafar had also sent a legal notice to co-artist Meesha Shafi for her allegations.

The Teefa in Trouble star had filed a defamation suit in a court in Lahore through his lawyer, asking for an apology from Meesha Shafi for levelling baseless allegations and pay Rs1 billion in damages.

In his petition in Sessions Court, Ali Zafar stated that the statement filed by Meesha Shafi is full of contradictions related to the dates and sequence of events.

Later, Meesha Shafi approached the Supreme Court against high court decision over her conflict with singer Ali Zafar.

The case is currently under proceeding.
