Wreath-Laying Ceremony With Kim's Participation Canceled In Russia's Vladivostok

VLADIVOSTOK (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th April, 2019) A wreath-laying ceremony at the Military Glory of the Pacific Fleet memorial in Russia's Far Eastern city of Vladivostok, which was expected to be attended by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, appears to be canceled, a Sputnik correspondent reported on Friday.

A wreath with a red ribbon saying "Kim Jong Un" and "To heroic warriors, who sacrificed their lives in the fight for the motherland" was carried away, while a red carpet rolled out next to the eternal fire was removed.

The wreath was subsequently returned to the memorial without a plastic cover and the ribbon on it.

Cordons at the roads leading to the memorial have also been removed.

The reasons for the cancellation are unknown but the event appears to be called off at the very last moment amid pouring rain and bad weather in Vladivostok.

Kim has been in Vladivostok since Wednesday when he arrived in the city on a private train for his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks between the two leaders took place on Russky Island. They were dedicated to the situation on the Korean Peninsula and bilateral cooperation.

The North Korean leader is expected to leave the city later on Friday, a train station employee has told Sputnik.
