Authorities Confirm 33 People Missing After Shipwreck Off Venezuela's Coast

CARACAS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th April, 2019) The Venezuelan authorities have confirmed that 33 people were missing after a shipwreck near the country's coast.

Local media reported on Thursday that a vessel had overturned on its way from the city of Guiria, located in Venezuela's northern state of Sucre, to Trinidad and Tobago. Two people were reportedly rescued after the accident, while rescuers are searching for other passengers.

The unit 55 of the Bolivarian National Guard's coast guard said on Thursday that a total of 35 people were on board the vessel when it capsized.

The accident occurred near Patos Island as the vessel overturned due to a high wave.

Twenty-three people on board the ship have been identified while the identities of other passengers remain unknown.
