Workshop to Control Emerging Viral Hemorrhagic Fever

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Nov, 2016 ) : The Department of Microbiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) organised a three-day international workshop on "Strategies to Control Emerging Viral Hemorrhagic Fever in Pakistan", here on Monday.

Vice Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha along with Special Secretary, Specialised Healthcare & Medical education Dr Sajid Chouhan, co-chaired the inaugural session of the workshop.

Pathology Professor Brig (R) Prof Dr Agha Babar Hussain, Prof Dr Shi Zhengli from Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese academy of Sciences Wuhan, China, Microbiology Professor Dr Tahir Yaqub and other faculty members from UVAS and professionals from across Pakistan were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that UVAS focused on field-oriented research. He said that the workshop provides a forum to researchers to share their knowledge and experience on control and diagnosis of the emerging issues that have direct impact on the country's economy.

He said that Pakistan is an agriculture country and there is much need to create awareness about animal disease diagnosis, vaccination, precautionary measures, etc, among farmers community that how to overcome such viral hemorrhagic fever caused by Congovirus spreading in livestock and other small and large mammals.

Prof Dr Agha Babar Hussain gave a presentation on Crimean Congo Hamorragic Fever (CCHF) in which he spoke about its transmission, symptoms, control measures and treatment, etc. The workshop is aimed at training manpower on emerging issues in health and veterinary sciences, equip participants with use of the latest mocrobiological and molecular techniques for diagnosis of VHF agents and to gather recommendations for livestock and public health department for bio-risk associated with emerging pathogens in Pakistan.
