WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th April, 2019) The European Space Agency is pleased that its relations with Russia have remained stable despite international political crises and believes space cooperation can help overcome such divisions, Director-General Jan Woerner told Sputnik.

"I'm very happy that we have stable cooperation with Russia in many fields - in human space flight as well as in robotic exploration... I think it's important to bridge earthly crises by working together in space," Woerner said. "I'm very happy that we have Russia, and in particular Roscosmos as a partner, especially in these times when there are some political crises."

Woerner said he is also happy with Russia's competence in many areas, emphasizing that cooperation was key to advancement in many fields.

"Through cooperation we can do things together which we could not do alone," he said.

Woerner also pointed out that while competition is a driver, cooperation is an enabler.

Russia and ESA are working together on several projects, including the ExoMars-2020.
