Russia's Martyshev Awaits US Authorities' Decision On Transfer To Another Jail - Lawyer

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th April, 2019) Russian citizen Yuriy Martyshev, sentenced by the US authorities to 78 months in prison on charges of computer hacking, still awaits a decision to be transferred to another jail, Martyshev's lawyer Alexey Tarasov told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"Martyshev is confined at Northern Neck regional jail in Virginia and he had not been transferred yet," Tarasov said.

Tarasov noted that on Friday he asked the US court to place Martyshev at the Allenwood correctional facility in the US state of Pennsylvania.

The lawyer explained the Allenwood prison has different levels of security and expressed hope Martyshev will be placed in the section with lowest security.

"The trial judge has followed our recommendation to advise the Federal Bureau of Prisons to place Martyshev at the Allenwood prison in Pennsylvania, but as far as we know the Bureau did not make a decision yet," Tarasov said.

Tarassov also said such transfer requests usually take some time to be reviewed.

Martyshev was arrested in Latvia on April 26, 2017, and was then transferred to the United States on a request by US authorities. The two years he spent in detention will be included as time served.
