US Diplomat Visits Australia, South Pacific to Promote Economic Development - State Dept.

Acting Undersecretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Manisha Singh has begun a visit in to Hawaii and the South Pacific, reflecting a commitment by the Trump administration to promote economic development in the Indo-Pacific region, the US Department of State said in a press release on Wednesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th April, 2019) Acting Undersecretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Manisha Singh has begun a visit in to Hawaii and the South Pacific, reflecting a commitment by the Trump administration to promote economic development in the Indo-Pacific region, the US Department of State said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Singh is traveling to Hawaii, Australia and Fiji from April 24 to May 6," the release said. "The trip is part of the administration's commitment to engage in the vital Indo-Pacific region, and ensure it is free, open and rules-based."

The State Department said Singh began the trip on Wednesday with a four-day visit to Hawaii for meetings with the US Indo-Pacific Command and to discuss economic issues.

In Australia from April 27 to May 2, Singh will meet with government officials and US business leaders to promote further enhancement of Indo-Pacific economic engagement, the release added.

During the final May 2 to 6 stop in Fiji, Singh will join government officials and business leaders at the Asian Development Bank's Annual Meeting and deliver a speech on new tools for infrastructure investment, according to the release.
