LHC Orders To Remove Ali Musa Gilani's Name From ECL

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Nov, 2016 ) : The Lahore High Court on Monday ordered to remove name of Syed Ali Musa Gilani, son of former premier Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, from Exit Control List (ECL).

Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza passed the orders while allowing a petition filed by Ali Musa Gilani for the purpose. The court had reserved the verdict after hearing arguments of the parties and it was released Monday.

Earlier, Ali's counsel Barrister Salman Safdar informed the court that petitioner's name was put on the ECL due to his involvement in a Ephedrine case. He said the Supreme Court had granted bail to the petitioner in the said case and had not issued any directions to put the name of petitioner on the ECL.

The counsel pointed out that the petitioner previously visited abroad with the court's permission and returned as per his undertaking. Barrister Safdar said the petitioner was unable to travel abroad for educational and business purposes due to his name on the ECL.

He asked the court to issue directions to the interior ministry to immediately remove the name of petitioner from ECL. However, a law officer on behalf of the Interior Ministry opposed the request and submitted that petitioner could flee the country if his name was removed from the ECL, saying it would cause delay in the procedings of Ephedrine case.
