Unbridled use of ICE crystal eroding social fabric of society

Use of Ice crystal has not only undermined the social fabric of society but also it has devastated the family life of citizens so much so that tenets of mutual respect, honor and dignity have lost their meaning

ISLAMABAD (Pakistan Point News / Online - 22nd April, 2019) Use of Ice crystal has not only undermined the social fabric of society but also it has devastated the family life of citizens so much so that tenets of mutual respect, honor and dignity have lost their meaning. The heart wrenching reports of subjecting his wife Isma Aziz by his husband Mian Faisal from Lahore to horrific torture and later cutting her hair to make her bald headed bear evidence how the addiction is devastating family lives.

.The victim lady supplicated Police to register case stating that her husband wanted to hang her with fan stripped but police showed indifferent attitude to her agonizing cries. It startled all that her husband was ice heroin addict and this evil has pervaded in all segments of our society particularly modern society has adopted it as fashion. The outcome is terrific as families upon families are sliding into savage ocean of death.Former state minister for interior Shahr Yar Afridi had disclosed in December 2018 that drug mafia is ruining our generation adding that 75 percent children are addict to ice heroin at present.

He had warned those playing with the honor of children will be made lesson for others.Talking of state of the art technology he said parents should keep an eye on their children. Parents should be well aware that their children are using these devices for what. The children are heading towards destruction due to misuse of these devices.Afridi further told that crystal ice and other drugs are found in School bags and the parents have no awareness that their children are going to meet what disaster.

But I agree to some extent with his views because elimination of this heinous crime is sole responsibility of the government. The nation should be told to what extent their tall claims have been materialized. The number of addicts are on rise day by day and the situation has reached such alarming proportion that the girls have also become involved in supplying drugs. It has also become crystal clear that the girls entrapped in this game of mouse and cat outnumber the boys.

This game is going on unchecked in the major universities of the country including Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad,, Agriculture university Faisalabad and others. But no one is there to rein in these elements.Tracing back to history of use of drugs in the world it came to light that this evil crept into circles of holy wood stars, club dancers and high class parties first of all and now it is available in the shape of crystal mixed with charas.

The young generation is inhaling it directly with placing it on bulb or light. With the preliminary puffs they feel them to be bursting with energy as if they can shake the entire world terrible with their unbridle power raging in their muscles. They start suffering from superiority complex. They can go to any extent in their world of delusions. General drugs make man slack but ice addict continues to wake up for several nights persistently and it seems to them often as if they are on some specific mission .

They see around them dead persons and they feel as if they can fight a lion. The cast dubious looks on their relatives. In the past drug was used as medicine and other purposes. In 1920 Germany used it as a source of cure for countless diseases. During 1930 it was used as medicine for treatment of asthma and fever. In 1950 this drug was shaped into tablets and the students, truck drivers and players used it to keep them awake in US. Its injection became available in the market in 1970 and it paved the way for addicts to use it as intoxicants.

US and NATO forces started using ice under a strategy and its use augmented the combat potential of the forces. They could fight for three days without eating, drinking. In fact use of ice make one feel rejuvenated with double energy and keeps him awake for the time frame spanning 24 to 48 hours. But when its effect dilutes, one feels extremely tired. The ice user memory grows sharp for the time being but slowly and gradually the mind goes blunt.

An investigation report revealed that the students who returned from other countries following completion of their education were found addict of ice because this use of this drug is very common in other countries.Ice is easily available in Peshawar and tribal areas in Pakistan which is being sold out in specific areas therein. Information is there that ice is being imported from Iran in Peshawar while it is coming from Afghanistan in large quantity as well.

Ice is being used as heroin in KP and tribal areas. One psychiatrist Dr Iftikhar Hussain told in an interview that over two hundreds ice addicts including 6 women were admitted into their hospital during the last two years.Use of ice is continuing in Karachi since last several years and it has become daily routine to subject girl addicts to sexual violence and maltreatment. Countless illegal laboratories are operating in Sohrab Goth, Lyari, New Karachi and other thickly populated areas of Karachi which are preparing ice.

In 2012 a laboratory busy in preparing ice in DHA Karachi was also seized. An explosion led to unearth this laboratory.Intense engagements and inflation have eroded moral values. Families are crumbling as parents have no time to look after their children in a befitting manner.Parents if see the symptoms of addiction to ice in their children they should firstly contact some psychiatrist for treatment. Use of drugs make the heart throbbing disorderly.

Appetite reduces and blood pressure shots up. One feels toothache and factor of violence over powers one. One feels tired I he tries to depart from this habit. If one uses ice once then becomes difficult for him to abandon it.According to an estimate about 80000 people are addicts of crystal myth in Pakistan and the students from private and government run universities and youth constitute the majority of the addicts of crystal.Police had caught red handed one Wahid Ali, ring leader of drug peddlers in January 2017 for supplying ice crystal to the students of Quaid-e-Azam University, Iqra University, Nust, COMSETS and ROOTS schools.

. The members of his gang were also arrested later. As per information received from them imported drugs are sold out to the students at the rate of Rs 2000 to Rs 3000 in the aforementioned major educational institutes. How these drugs reach in the hands of the students. It is the security guards of the educational institutes who play important role in maintaining supply line of drugs to students. Taxi drivers standing outside the educational institutes are also involved in this crime while the hotel workers and general store workers are also indulged in this immoral business.

Police have always denied that drugs is supplied to students inside schools or it is sold openly outside schools.During a raid, a security guard of a university was apprehended while selling drugs. Drugs were recovered from him and he was dismissed from service but after one week of his dismissal this guard was again performing his duty. This shows how much influential people are behind this disastrous business. It is astonishing to note that police have failed to lay hand on any big fish so far.

A general impression prevails that such big names are behind this filthy business that police cannot dare to cast their eye on them. These powerful people use administration of schools, colleges and universities and police in this trade. This game is being played since long and no one pays heed to it because such elements stand with these educational institutes management and police who enjoy robust status in the rank of ruling elite. The research conducted by UN at international level discloses that drug addicts in Pakistan are numbering 89 lac which are sign of threat at individual and collective level.

Those using drugs belong to age groups ranging between 15 to 64 years. The arrangements for rehabilitation of the drug addicts are not enough. The treatment facilities are available for 30000 drug addicts only. The institutions including Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) whose sole responsibility is to eradicate drug trafficking and create awareness among people about fatal implications of narcotics have confined themselves to holding one or two seminars in a year.

They torch the narcotics which is seized with the help of other institutions.A special crackdown was assigned to ANF to eliminate drugs peddling in educational institutions but it has failed in achieving its goal miserably. The responsibility rests with the parents and the teachers that they should keep a vigil eye on the activities and movement of students that they spend most of their time where, who are their friends and how much interest they evince in the studies. The children should not be shown leniency and they should not be also allowed to keep them indoors in the name of privacy.Curbing the drug peddling is the obligation of government because" abhi bhi waqt hai chaho to khench lo begainWagarna waqt tumhen benishan kar de ga"
