Democratic Leaders Urge Mueller to Provide Public Testimony on Trump-Russia Report

Special Counsel Robert Mueller should provide a public congressional testimony on his report of the investigation into allegations of Trump-Russia collusion in the 2016 US presidential election, House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a statement said on Thursday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th April, 2019) Special Counsel Robert Mueller should provide a public congressional testimony on his report of the investigation into allegations of Trump-Russia collusion in the 2016 US presidential election, House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a statement said on Thursday.

"We believe the only way to begin restoring public trust in the handling of the Special Counsel's investigation is for Special Counsel Mueller himself to provide public testimony in the House and Senate as soon as possible," the statement said.

Earlier on Thursday, US Attorney General William Barr said the redacted report of Mueller's investigation will not include grand jury information, sensitive intelligence-related information, materials related to ongoing prosecutions and details that could damage the reputation of third parties.

Pelosi and Schumer accused Barr of handling the Mueller report in a partisan manner, adding that the US Attorney General provided "irresponsible testimony" before US Congress last week.

Such actions, the Democratic leaders said, "have resulted in a crisis of confidence in [Barr's] independence and impartiality."

Russia has repeatedly refuted claims of interference in the US political system. Russian officials have said the allegations were made up to excuse the election loss of Trump's opponent as well as deflect public attention from actual instances of election fraud and corruption.
