SC Converts Death Sentence Of Murder Convict Into Life Imprisonment

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Nov, 2016 ) : The Supreme Court on Friday converted the death sentence of a murder convict into life imprisonment over lack of evidence. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa and comprising Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood heard the case filed by Muhammad Aziz a resident of Okara against his death sentence.

During the course of proceedings, the Prosecutor General Punjab appeared before the court and informed that Muhammad Aziz with his companion Subah Sadiq was convicted for alleged murder of three persons namely Fazal Aslam, Muhammad Saleem and Suleman Fatima in the year 2000 in Mitha Bhatti area.

He said that trial court awarded life sentence to Subah Sadiq and Muhammad Aziz was awarded death sentence.

He said that Lahore High Court maintained trial court on which Aziz filed petition in the Supreme Court against high court verdict.

The court after hearing arguments of counsels remarked that how can death sentence is awarded to an accused, while life imprisonment to another in same case. The court converted the death sentence into life imprisonment over lack of evidence and remarked that the decision was applicable only in the case of Muhammad Aziz.

The court was also informed that co-accused in the case Subah Sadiq had died in jail on February 1, 2008. Later, the court directred to send a copy of the order to the Superintendent Jail and disposed of the case.
