SIUT to observe "Diabetes Day" on Nov 12

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Nov, 2016 ) : "Diabetes Day" will be observed as a part of public education and to create awareness among the masses about the do's and don'ts of diabetes by Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), at its premises on November 12.

An elaborate program has been chalked out starting at 9 am in the morning in which investigations, screening exercises including blood testing, weight and height measurement on scientific lines will be carried out by trained staff, said a statement on Friday.

Medical professionals and specialists would be present at the institute to give medical advice and dietary advice to visiting persons.

According to official statistics, there are 415 million people around the globe who are suffering from diabetes and with the growing trend it is estimated that this figure will reach to around 642 million people by 2040.

In Pakistan the number of people suffering with diabetes is presently 10.1 million. 25 per cent of uncontrolled diabetics lead towards renal failure requiring dialysis and transplantation, the statement said.
