Kremlin Says Got No Requests From Ukraine Presidential Candidates for Meetings With Putin

Russia has not received any requests from Ukrainian presidential candidates for meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th April, 2019) Russia has not received any requests from Ukrainian presidential candidates for meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

"As far as I know, we have not received any requests," Peskov told reporters, when asked relevant question.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his opponent in the presidential race, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, are going to hold meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron later in the day in Paris, ahead of their runoff, scheduled for April 21.

Peskov declined to comment on these meetings.

"Let us abstain from comments and wait for the reaction of Ukrainian Interior Minister [Arsen Avakov] on the meetings with Mister Macron," Peskov said.

Avakov slammed on Thursday the meeting between Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and the leader of the Ukrainian Opposition Platform For Life party, Yuriy Boyko, who failed to make it to the runoff, as Russia's attempt to meddle in Ukraine's election process.

Since Poroshenko is also set to held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday, Peskov suggested that Avakov could "accuse a third state of the same things that he has accused Russia of."

"Let us wait [for Avakov's comments] and draw conclusions only then," Peskov added.

The first round of Ukraine's presidential election took place on March 31. Zelenskiy led with over 30 percent of the votes, while Poroshenko came in second with almost 16 percent. As none of the candidates secured the absolute majority, a runoff was scheduled for April 21.
