LHC summons Punjab CM in Model Town JIT petition

The court ordered the Punjab CM to appear before the court at 3pm today.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 11th April, 2019) The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at 3pm today in the Model Town case.

A hearing on petition filed against the formulation of new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in the model town case was held in the LHC on Thursday.

The LHC summoned Punjab CM, provincial law minister, chief secretary and law secretary in the case.

The court ordered the Punjab CM to appear before the court at 3pm today.

Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan said that the province’s biggest law officer is standing like a accused. “The court has only taken a notice, not issued a show cause,” he said.

The LHC had earlier on Monday extended a stay order for refraining new JIT from work until April 11.

The LHC had also sought reply from the Federal government, the government of Punjab and JIT members in the case.

It may be noted here that inspector Rizwan and constable Khurram Rafique had filed a petition in the LHC against constitution of the new JIT in the Model Town Case. Lawyers of Inspector Rizwan and Constable Khurram Rafique had argued that the Supreme Court had given no order about the new JIT. They had pleaded to the court to quash the new JIT and stop it from investigation as it would affect the Model Town trial.

On June 17, 2014, at least 14 people were killed and 100 others injured when the police opened fire to disperse protesting Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers during an anti-encroachment operation outside the residence of PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri.
