Baisaki Festivities To Start From Sunday

Pakistan issues visas to Sikh pilgrims from the world and India who are arriving here on the event

LAHORE- Pakistan has approved the schedule for 2019’s Baisakhi Mela, approving visas to 2200 Sikh pilgrims.

Baisakhi is a historical and religious festival in Sikhism. It is usually celebrated on 13 or 14 April every year and marks the Sikh new year. The event commemorates the formation of Khalsa Panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.

Pakistan is home to hundreds of sacred sites and Gurdwaras of Sikh religion including Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of the founder of Sikh religion, Guru Nanak Devji.

Sikhs from around the world including 2200 from India will reach Pakistan on April 12 to participate in the festivities.

Indian Sikh will arrive on special trains through Lahore’s Wahga border. Both countries operate special trains to facilitate the pilgrims on Baisakhi and other religious events.

Strict security arrangements would be made during the movements of pilgrims in different cities of Pakistan.
