ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Nov, 2016 ) : Pakistan on Thursday welcomed the the American President-elect Donald Trump's offer to arbitrate between Pakistan and India for peace between the two nuclear powers.
Talking in a tv programme, Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said that Pakistan was ready to accept Trump's mediation offer between the two states. He said Pakistan would ask the new US administration not to adhere to Indian claims only, as the country would highlight the Indian atrocities in Indian occupied Kashmir during the last three months.
He viewed that India desired Pakistan not to claim credit of its sacrifices against terrorism, adding that Pakistan had been successfully eliminating the menace. Sartaj Aziz said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had already sent a letter of felicitation to Donald Trump; however Pakistan would devise its US strategy after the new US President forms his team and the contours of their policy come to the fore.
He said as the victory of Donald Trump was a surprise to every one, every country would take sometime to formulate their American policies. He said possible points of engagements with the US could be the war against terrorism, middle East situation, peace in Afghanistan besides the economic ties as economic revival of US was Trump's top priority.
When asked about Trump's announcement during his election campaign to take up Dr Shakeel Afridi issue with Pakistan, Sartaj Aziz said Pakistan was already trying to accelerate his case and the government would implement whatsoever the court decides.
