Member of EAPN Alliance Says EU Member States, Not Brussels Should Handle Foreign Policy

Each EU member state should be able to decide on its own foreign policy instead of the bloc's authorities handling the issue, Anders Vistisen, representative of the Danish People's Party, one of the four members of the newly-created European Alliance of People and Nations (EAPN), told Sputnik

MILAN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th April, 2019) Each EU member state should be able to decide on its own foreign policy instead of the bloc's authorities handling the issue, Anders Vistisen, representative of the Danish People's Party, one of the four members of the newly-created European Alliance of People and Nations (EAPN), told Sputnik.

The alliance has already brought together Lega, the Danish People's Party, the Finns Party and the Alternative for Germany. The creation of EAPN was announced by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and leader of Lega party Matteo Salvini on Monday morning in Milan, at the event attended by representatives of the three other parties as well.

"The EU should not have a [common] foreign affairs policy, it should be for the member states to decide ... My own country, Denmark, can keep our alliances and security," Vistisen said.

The politician cited EU stance on Russian sanctions as a contentious foreign policy issue.

"The Brits and the Poles have been on one side of the argument, while Germany, France and Italy have been softer on Russia ... I think the policy toward Russia will change anyway," Vistisen added.

The alliance was set up ahead of the European Parliament elections scheduled for May 23-26.
