Tanvir for bolstering defence production ties with Turkmenistan

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Nov, 2016 ) : Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanvir Hussain Thursday said that Pakistan shared warm and friendly relations with Turkmenistan and both the countries enjoyed cooperation in various fields but there was need to bolster ties in the field of defence production.

He expressed these during a meeting with Minister for Defence and Secretary of National Security Council of Turkmenistan Col Gen Berdiyev Yaylym Yagmyrovich, who along with his delegation called on him here.

The minister welcomed the delegation in Ministry of Defence Production. He stressed the need to exchange delegations in order to increase future cooperation between the two countries. He, in particular expressed the desire to strengthen the relations on military technical side.

Col Gen Berdiyev Yaylym Yagmyrovich thanked the minister for the hospitality extended to the delegation. He said that he would send Commander of Land Forces to attend IDEAS-2016 on his behalf. He showed interest in the defence industry of Pakistan and asked for help in order to establish defence industry in Turkmenistan.

Rana Tanvir appraised the delegation about different defence facilities of Pakistan. He said that POF, HIT, PAC, NRTC and other defence establishments were working hard to manufacture state-of- the-art products.

He said that PAC was manufacturing fighter Aircraft JF-17 and Trainer plane super Mashshak adding that JF-17 fighter aircraft was an excellent aircraft and its capability was equal to F-16 but its price was one third of the F-16.

Our trainer aircraft is also popular with many countries, he said. He stressed the need to sign an agreement or MoU with Turkmenistan for cooperation in the field of defence production. He said Pakistan defence industry was available, open and ready to cooperate with their brotherly country.

He said both the countries could have joint ventures as well. Col Gen Berdiyev Yaylym Yagmyrovich extended the invitation to the minister to visit Turkmenistan. He also mentioned that previously they did not have defence industry but they were looking forward to establish that with Pakistan's support.
