Marriyum for utilization of Radio Pakistan to project country's

ISLAMABAD, (Pakistan Point News - APP - 10th Nov, 2016 ) : Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb on Thursday called for utilization of the platform of Radio Pakistan for projecting country's positive image, both at home and abroad. She made these remarks while participating in a special live programme of current affairs channel of Radio Pakistan during her visit to the National Broadcasting House here.

The Minister said that training of human resource and equipping Radio Pakistan and other mediums of Information Ministry with latest technology, will be her top most priority to achieve that objective. Marriyum Aurangzeb pointed out that Pakistan of today is much different than what it was in 2013 as the country has been put on the road to prosperity through mega projects in diverse fields including transport, communication, CPEC, education and health.

Similarly, the counter terrorism initiative has improved overall environment for foreign and domestic investment. She said the country has been put on the right and positive direction but the challenge is to build the image of the country, both at home and abroad. She said Radio Pakistan has a pivotal role in this regard and having outreach to rural areas, this medium will be fully utilized to share positive developments about the country.

This will also help fight despondency amongst the youth, she added. Referring to reduction in power load-shedding to three-hour and the programme launched by the prime minister for the youth, the Minister stressed these positive developments could be transmitted to the masses through Radio Pakistan for the benefit of the people. Responding to a question, the Minister of State said that she will continue to visit Radio Pakistan to apprise the people about the government's programs for their welfare and development.

When asked about the right to information bill, Marriyum Aurangzeb said work has been completed on it and it will soon be presented before the parliament for approval. She described the finalization of the law as a historic and a positive step forward. Earlier, the Minister visited different wings of the National Broadcasting House including the general news room, Web Desk, Saulatul Quran Channel and different studios. On the occasion, she was briefed about the working of each department.

Director-General Radio Pakistan Khurshid Malik briefed the Minister of State about functioning of different wings of the organization. The Minister gave directions to improve News, Current Affairs and Programme contents as well as human resource development. She said Radio Pakistan should also increase its focus on issues pertaining to youth and women and policies and programmes of the Government for their welfare. She also proposed steps for increasing revenue generation and efficient utilization of the resources.

She said that Radio being an old medium of communication is still catering the largest section of the society. She said in the past it produced some of the great voices, artists and musicians and concerted efforts were needed to revive its old glory. She said the quality of content and programming with special reference to focus on youth, need to be further improved. She said that Radio Pakistan should also launch an awareness campaign on issues of malnutrition and other issues of public importance. She also emphasized the need of training and capacity building of human resource on professional and modern lines. Minister of State also asked the officials to prepare a self-sustaining business plan for Radio Pakistan.
