China Ready To Assist Iran In Floods Relief - Foreign Ministry

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th April, 2019) China is ready to consider the possibility of assisting Iran in the aftermath of floods, if the Iranian side needs it, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said on Thursday.

"State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has sent a message of condolences to the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. China will positively consider providing assistance based on Iran's needs," Geng said at a briefing.

On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said that the United States interferes with efforts to assist flood victims in Iran by blocking the accounts of the Iranian Red Crescent.

In late March, Iran faced flash floods triggered by heavy rains. The floods have affected at least 25 out of 31 Iranian provinces, killing dozens of people, damaging infrastructure and washing away roads. According to most recent reports, the number of people killed in the floods increased to 62 people.
