Saqib Umer Upset Shaheen To Reach Semi-finals Of Memorial Tennis

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Nov, 2016 ) : Qualifier Saqib Umar Thursday upset seed No. 3 Shaheen Mehmood to reach the semi-finals of the Men singles event of the ongoing first IGP Khurshid Alam Khan Memorial Tennis Tournament being played here at Qayyum sports Complex Tennis Courts here.
Coach of the Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Roman Gul was the chief guest on this occasion. Former Davis Cupper International Jehanzeb Khan (coach), Secretary Organizing Committee Umar Ayaz were also present.
In the first quarter-final Saqib Umar, a national ranking player in the Under-14 category, upset seeded no. 3 Shaheen Mehmood by 6-2, 3-6 and 6-4 in a thrilling battle lasted for one hour and 40 minutes.
Both Saqib Umar and Shaheen Mehmood gave each other a tough fight with some beautiful cross-court smashes were also witnessed.
Saqib Umar has better control over his strong and forceful serve as he hit five ace serve against two of Shaheen Umar.
Both Saqib and Umar have delighted the sitting spectators. Saqib after taking the first set failed to click in the second that won by Shaheen Mehmood. In the other matches of the Men singles category top seed Shoaib Khan defeated Asad Ullah by 3-6, 7-5 (6-6), 6-3 in another thrilling match.
Barkat Ullah, a national ranking player, beat Farhan Ullah by 6-1 and 6-2 in a one-sided affair. Barkat Ullah fully dominated the proceedings and did not allow Farhan Ullah to strike back. Mubarak Shah beat Ikram UIlah by 6-4 and 6-3. Ikram Ullah gave tough resistance to Mubarak Shah while Aqib Umar beat Nouman by 6-2 and 6-4. APP/ijz/rn
