Armenian, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers Could Meet Again in Near Future - Baku

The Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers could have another meeting in the near future in one of the capital cities of co-chair countries of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said on Thursday

BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th April, 2019) The Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers could have another meeting in the near future in one of the capital cities of co-chair countries of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said on Thursday.

"With good will, we must make a breakthrough now. The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan instructed the foreign ministers to continue their work, and we will have a bilateral meeting very soon, we have already agreed on a date. Traditionally, it will be announced together by Baku and Yerevan, but I can share that it will take place very soon in one of the capitals of the co-chair countries," the foreign minister said at a press conference with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

The OSCE Minsk Group, which is co-chaired by Russia, the United States and France, was created back in 1992 to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the landlocked region in the South Caucasus with a predominantly Armenian population.

Nagorno-Karabakh proclaimed independence in 1991, which was followed by a bloody three-year war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The region is officially viewed as an Azerbaijani territory. The pressure in the area continues, resulting in occasional violence. The latest escalation of tensions in the region happened in April 2016.
