Govt Increases Scholarships To 50 Thousand

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Nov, 2016 ) : Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Engr Muhammad Baligh ur Rehman on Thursday said that scholarship for bright students of Matric and intermediate has been increased to 50 thousand per year in order to encourage them.
He stated this while Attending the closing ceremony of workshop on Education Assessment and laptop distribution ceremony as chief guest at Federal board of Intermediate and secondary Education(FBISE).
Minister of State admired the Chairman FBISE Dr. Ikram and Prof Norman Reid from University of Glasgow for successfully conducting the education assessment workshop and said no planning can be done without the assessment of the ground situation.
Distributing the laptops among top three position holders, he said that students in the next phase would get laptops along with the prize money, as per the directions of President of Pakistan. The minister said the prize money for matriculation examinations for top three positions have been increased to Rs 100,000, 75 thousand and 50 thousand respectively.
For intermediate it has been increased to Rs 200,000, 1500,000 and 100,000 for first three positions. Moreover, he said that students would be provided with Qarz e Hasna for their higher studies, and they would return the amount, at 5% per year (without interest) after starting their jobs.
The return amount would be used for other students, emphasized the minister. Baligh said "We have to improve our examination system by curbing cheating habit in examinations". He stressed the need to improve the education standard through promoting conceptual learning.
FBISE, the minister said, was a role model for the other provincial boards in the provision of quality education. Although, the education was now a devolved subject, he said, but it was responsibility of the cent0er to help the provinces for the improvement of the sector.
Baligh ur Rahman said that many institutions like Transparency International were predicting improvement in Pakistan as the government has taken many steps for the elimination of corruption. He said system of training; evaluations and assessments are getting improved adding that training manuals have been developed at FBISE with the suggestions of other boards for the first time which is a remarkable achievement.
He added that one window operation system and issuance of online roll number slip are great initiatives taken by the FBISE. Pakistan is going to adopt international assessment systems by 2019, he added.
